Crown Jewels

If Manchester had its own set of of crown jewels what would they be? What would they look like? What story might they tell? The Crown Jewels bee sculpture depicts a great pile of suffragette jewels guarded by a bejewelled, suffragette bee. The piece explores historical polticial jewellery and enshrines the colours green, purple and white as Manchester's unofficial crown jewels. Crown Jewels pays homage to the legacy of Mancunian activism and feminism.

Throughought the summer of 2018 Manchester City Centre played host to a swarm of over 100 spectacular bees. The legendary Bee In The City sculpture trail featured sculptures designed by local artists and national artists. Crown Jewels was number 74 on the trail and displayed at Manchester Art Gallery.
